About Us.


Stratcoms is an experienced communications team with a proven track record in government, institutional and political communications.

History:

The team came together in Mogadishu between 2010 – 2013 under a UN contract with AU/AMISOM

Over a period of three years, the team provided communications support to UNPOS, UNSOA, AU, AMISOM and the Transitional Federal Government

We built the media relationships to communicate effectively with the domestic Somali media

We hosted over 200 international media on planned organised trips focusing on security, government/politics, humanitarian and economic issues

We created and maintained a dynamic and innovative online communication plan using original state of the art websites and social media and – most of all – original imagery and content

Over three years, we helped to transform both the general perception of Somalia and media access to it.

Wendy Gacheri

Managing Director

Wendy Gacheri is a champion of communication tools and technologies, with a track record of creating and implementing successful communication programs. She has run successful social media accounts for; The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), MakeItKenya tourism campaign for The Ministry of Tourism Kenya and for former East African Affairs, Commerce and Tourism Cabinet Secretary, Phyllis Kandie. She also set up and ran the Make It Kenya Social Media accounts that won various awards including Best travel & tourism online campaign-IPRA Golden World Award 2016, Best use of mobile communications and social apps and Best use of social media – Make It Kenya #MaraLive at the African Excellence Awards 2016.

Collins Mwanza

Executive Director

Collins Mwanza has experience in creating and maintaining positive relationships between clients and the public and establishing positive associations on behalf of clients. He has played an instrumental role in various communication strategies and campaigns. He also has experience in strategic planning, managing projects, establishing controls and systems for organizations and running finance and administration departments. Collins has been responsible in developing businesses from start ups to self sustaining entities by offering advise and growth strategies that are relevant to their particular industries. He takes care of the business end of things ensuring the clients get value for their spend.

Arnold Temple

Production Consultant

Arnold Temple has more than twelve years experience in the TV/ Video production industry. He has a vast experience in various aspects of the production process from research and conceptualization of an idea in pre-production, to actual filming, post-productions and distribution for the finished a product. He’s worked as a Video-Journalist and Camera Operator for the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) and later South Sudan (UNMISS), the UNHCR Regional Hub in Nairobi and the African Union/United Nations Information Support Team for AMISOM.

Suleiman Abdullahi

Media Relations Director

Suleiman Abdullahi  has worked as a communications specialist advising government, donors and corporate institutions across East and the Horn of Africa. He has a background in journalism, worked for agencies such as UPI and Al Jazeera before taking up development communications, supporting multiple programs in the USAID and DFID portfolios. He specialised in strategic communications, working closely with the African Union peacekeeping forces in Somalia and has served as a communications advisor for the Somali Prime Minister as well as designing campaigns for political parties in Somalia.

Lewis Kihumba

Research & Monitoring
Specialist

Lewis Kihumba is a USIU graduate with a degree in International Relations. He has a wealth of experience in research for communications and development, and has worked in various organizations, including a research role with AMISOM in Mogadishu. He has also worked for the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), where he was involved in research on various client portfolios including the European Union (EU), United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Department for International Development (DFID), and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) among others.

James Gitungo

Creative Director

James Gitungo is a skilled cameraman and editor. He instructs and mentors multimedia producers in the skills required to provide video images relevant to a chosen message and suitable for the world’s media. His work has been featured and used in leading international and regional broadcast stations like Al Jazeera, China Central Television, Euro News and Reuters News Agency. He has over eight experience in creative development, production and post-production of traditional, modern content projects for film, television and web. James instructs and mentors multimedia producers in the skills required to provide video images relevant to a chosen message and suitable for the world’s media

Fatima Hagi

Public Relations Advisor

Fatima is an experienced communication specialist and a social anthropologist with over 5 years experience in media, political analysis, project management, women’s empowerment projects, and strategic communication in various countries including Kenya, Somalia and the United Kingdom. She has worked as a Communications Specialist for Migration for Development in Africa (MIDA), the African Union/United Nations Support Team for AMISOM, Muslim Aid and UN Women.
